She talks Glam

Joy is in my name

Hello lovely people! Another Sunday on my virtual corner, time really seems to fly when you are busy doing stuff! 😉

I was shooting this look with a couple of very good friends a few weeks ago and I immediately knew what I wanted to talk about when putting this up: JOY!

Not only the pretty letter-print on my statement jumper, but a word worth feeling every day. It’s so easy to get caught up in daily struggles and longings that we sometimes forget to appreciate all the blessings we have.

At the beginning of this year I decided to give a try to the positive-thoughts jar or happy memory jar where you are supposed to put a little note with a nice memory of your week, a small accomplishment or something just worth remembering. So far I have managed to keep up! 🙂 Mind you, I had to set an alarm on my phone specifically for this task in order to force myself to take a break from the never stopping merry-go-round and look around me, reflect on the previous 6 days and pick one special moment that made me smile or feel content, but it’s becoming a quiet me–time that I enjoy every week…

And this brings me to the reason of this post’s title. The legend goes that my mum picked my name from a Christian saints’ day calendar because she liked its meaning. It’s really an Arabic name, so I am not sure why it would appear on such calendar, but the important thing is the meaning behind it: “lucky, happy”.

When going through my teens, my mum would often remind me that I used to be a very happy baby and smile all the time, instead of grunting and barking as my thirteen-year-old self tended to communicate with others.

I like that borrowed memory of me as a cheerful little girl, so now that I am a grown-up (kind of) I try to honour my name by finding reasons to laugh and consciously letting the good in my life outweigh the bad. Not always easy, I’ll admit, but we walk the path one step at a time…

Hope you enjoyed the pictures of this attire in the quaint little streets of my beloved adoptive city.

Be happy, feel joy and have an awesome week, glamistas!

Love,

I love the positive messaging your sweater gives up. I think it’s so important to keep a positive mindset, that way you attract positivity and the bad in your life just doesn’t seem to matter that much!

Such a fun sweater! I love the idea of a happy memory jar.. I am definitely going to try this as I always find myself reflecting on the negatives but not the positives!

Right? I think that’s in our human nature to always look on the negatives, but small exercises like this can help us change that
      Happy Monday, Emily!

That’s such a great idea to make a positivity jar! I made one for my boyfriend a couple Valentine’s ago, but instead it had inspiring quotes by his favorite author that he could pull in times of stagnancy or his lowest lows. I like the idea of actually putting memories/thoughts in it as a daily habit. Happy 2017! xx

That sounds like a very nice present indeed, Kit! I thought I would have to come up with my own weekly inspiration to fill up the jar, but the quotes sounds great too 🙂

Have an awesome week ahead and read you soon
