How to brighten up your office look

Let me get started by saying that since I started my professional career a few years ago, I have not once worked in an office with a formal dress code in place.

This is how I picture that code it in my head: black suit, white shirt, black low heels, simple jewellery. If you are lucky, jeans on casual Friday! This office etiquette always sounded so cliché to me, and maybe it’s just an urban legend and the workers of the City are the last stronghold of the trend, but to be honest I am glad I haven’t had to verify it myself 😉

While I see the convenience of a standard dress code, I have always preferred a bit of freestyle in the workplace and that was my inspiration for today’s look: a formal enough attire with blush accessories for a brightened–up office outfit.

I believe that nowadays most companies are more relaxed about the dress code of their employees (all the Californian start-ups come to mind right now), so as long as you are not dressing inappropriately for your workplace, monochrome is no longer the only option. Well, unless you wanna go for that sophisticated and classy look that a black & white attire will always achieve 😉

If you want to mix things up a little when planning your daily outfit, I suggest playing with the accessories: add a statement ring or necklace, a silky neck scarf, an original belt or some gorgeous shoes. This special element will become your punctum, the point of attention in your style composition.

I personally need my colour fix in almost every outfit, so even if these pale peachy pink clutch & shoes from ASOS are not a massive call for attention, they surely add a lil’ something to an otherwise boring look. Perfect for a client meeting or presentation. Plus the shoes are super comfy with their wide fit (thanks, ASOS!)

The dotted shirt was a real steal from Primark and it has proven a very versatile piece that I can dress up or down depending on the bottoms I add to it (jeans, my black culottes, a pair of white trousers, etc.)

Did you like this #BossLady style, glamistas?

Do you have to dress formally for your workplace or can you wear your baggy jeans & sneakers without being frowned–upon?

Let me know in the comments and have a great week!
