From a very young age, I could see and feel that life can be tough for the women of this world. If it is true that society is constantly evolving and nowadays you find countless men who are fervent supporters of equal rights and gender equality, it is also obvious that we still have a long way to go…
Let’s put it bluntly: you and I might be lucky enough to have been raised in a tolerant household, where we could speak our minds and feel respected and supported by the male figures around us, where our opinions were taken into account and our choices in life were not limited by any gender stereotypes; but there are many girls out there whose reality is diametrically the opposite and you don’t have to go far to see that.
In the 21st Century, there are women who are afraid of travelling on their own; boys who are told “the colour pink and cooking toys are for girls”; there are women who get paid less than their male counterparts, and that have to choose between professional development and family life; there are guys who think “boys don’t cry” and “men have to provide”; female staff who are told to “dress like women” and girls who are told to behave by other women who honestly think that’s the best way to fit in… I am sure you know what I am talking about.
I am fully aware sexism is deeply rooted in our culture and our ways of thinking, and that societies don’t change overnight, but on the bright side I am also a firm believer in human will to bring about change and in the power of unity!
As Sophie Miller from Fashion Slave points out in her insightful post, change has to start with us women eradicating the stereotypes that perpetuate gender inequality, deleting them from our system, from our core values and even from our language!
And that means stop thinking you are less of a good girl for going on too many dates; stop feeling you have to look skinny and young, be a caring mother, a competent boss, not show too much skin, look happy all the time, embrace motherhood, be the perfect wife/girlfriend, not speak rude or lose your temper, be an independent woman, a model student, a good daughter, have a steady relationship and a long etc. in order to be accepted and achieve happiness!
There’s no way we can tick all the boxes society has come up with to define us, so I’ll simply say what you should be thinking:
YOU ARE AMAZING just the way you are and there is no other like yourself, so that surely makes you as special as those girls you look up to!
This #Femmevibe tee got me reflecting on this topic which hits close to home, and made me realise that, also from a very young age, I knew I would have never chosen a different sex if given the choice.
Being a woman is an amazing adventure that I get to live everyday and learning from the strong women that have been part of and enriched my life, and the men who have loved and respected them unconditionally, is something I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world.
Sure, we still have a long way to go, but we walk the walk one step at a time, so all we can do is make sure our steps are heading in “the right direction”…
Because we all know the answer to Queen B’s masterpiece, Who run the World? ♥
Happy (long) weekend, lovely people!
Peace&Love

Besos enormes ♥

29th May 2017 at 11:28 pmIt’s really sad that we live in the 21st century and gender equality is still not where is should be. I’m wondering when people will stop being so narrow minded. Like how can we get paid less for the same job? How can some women still be afraid of traveling on their own?… Anyways..I love what you did with this outfit, it looks both chic and casual and I’ll have to get that graphic tee in my life as well :). Wishing you a lovely day! xx

29th May 2017 at 5:49 amThe colour of that blazer is fantastic. I think you are absolutely right: It is a tough world for women out there but it is getting much better and women are so empowered. We just need to make sure to communicate that to girls as they grow up, that they can do everything they want to do and that no one is allowed to tell them otherwise!

29th May 2017 at 2:32 pmAmen to that Didier, empowerment starts at home with girls trusting they will be able to achieve everything they set out to do in life!
