Live boldly, wear a hat

Every time I think of a hat, a sweet story comes to my mind: the Little Prince having to explain the naive adult that his drawing is in reality a boa constrictor digesting an elephant. These adults don’t understand anything, they always need explanations to see through things 😉

For many years I told myself that I should not wear certain things on the pretext that they would not suit me, they would look ridiculous on me (but look amazing on other people), that they wouldn’t fit my style, etc. This obsession we have with putting everything into a box with a pretty little label on it, you know what I am talking about…

And of course, one of those things I always told myself not to wear were hats. Don’t ask me why, but apart from the occasional straw hat to prevent a sunstroke in the summer, it was an accessory that never really interested me, assuming they would ALL make me look stupid and ready for a costume party.

I was reading some blog posts last week, and I read a piece of advice that stuck with me.

As the gorgeous Amy from The Luxi Look put it, quoting Mary Schmich:

Do one thing a day that scares you.” […] Not to be dramatic, but if you’re not doing things that scare you, facing your fears, making mistakes, trying new things, are you really living?!”

I know what you are thinking, “wearing a bowler hat in good ol’ England is not precisely in my top 10 of scary things to overcome”. However the key factor is that it was not my easy choice, but rather something I had always wanted to try and that I had to bring myself to do, like eating cauliflower or exercising twice a week. For you it could be that pink hair you’ve wanted for so long, or daring to wear animal prints or bright colours… you get my point 🙂

I never used to wear hats… Until now!

Until the moment I decided life is too short not to try things out for fear of embarrassment or betrayal to one’s personal aesthetic. If anything, I believe fashion is a very creative field where we are encouraged to experiment, to hit & miss, to learn from mistakes and enjoy along the way!

This cute bowler hat was the first headwear addition to my wardrobe this year and I am sure I will be including it in future outfits during the colder months. In these pics, it completed the simple outfit and actually pretty much stole the show together with all the blooming trees of this gorgeous city! It felt good to wear the hat, like a small style test, a step outside my comfort zone, a mission accomplished.

Hope you like the result, glamistas! ♥

This week, I dare you to try and wear that piece of clothing that is sitting in your wardrobe because you think it doesn’t fully suit your style. Get out there and own it, make it as yours as your favourite pair of jeans, ignore those labels you may have been putting on yourself and remember to have fun!

Happy Sunday, lovely peeps!

The way you used to feel about hats and them not suiting you is how I felt about earrings for the longest time. I think part of it was I always hated that my ears stuck out a bit and I feel that earrings just draw more attention to them. Recently I’m experimenting more with them and finding that I don’t mind them! Guess my ears don’t bother me as much anymore =P

I know exactly what you mean, we are all self-conscious about some part of other of our body, so we just wanna hide them until one day you realise they are actually normal and some people even like them 🙂 You have beautiful ears, darling

I didn’t wear hats up until a few years ago. Now I love them for bad hair days & lazy days. They make me look put together even when I’m not. In fact, I’m wearing one in my latest blog post 🙂

Growing up I also felt insecure with wearing hats, it just felt too much of a statement and people thought you were “too” fashionable. But I love hats now though and one of the things I can’t have too many of hahah. Even though the style is the same, there’s a big difference (ofc you know) between a black color and a dark navy, lol!

And love your hat, it’s adorable! Xx
